Klaviyo & customer retention

Klaviyo Consulting for Luxury & Premium Ecommerce

Most Klaviyo accounts send too much. For a premium brand, the goal is not more messages but better-judged ones: customer data used to make communication more relevant, and restraint treated as part of the brand.

As a Klaviyo consultant, HL Digital builds the lifecycle programme behind a considered purchase — welcome, consideration, post-purchase care, servicing and quiet win-back — segmented properly and written in your voice.

Klaviyo strategy starts with the customer, not the calendar

Before any flow is built, we look at who your customers are, how long they take to decide, what they buy next and what makes them stop listening. The strategy that follows decides what should be automated, what should be occasional, and what should never be sent at all.

Segmentation with intent

First-time buyers, repeat customers, collectors, high-value clients and lapsing customers deserve different messages — and some deserve fewer. We define segments from purchase history, engagement and service interactions, then hold the discipline of sending less, better.

Lifecycle flows that carry the brand

Each flow is designed as customer experience rather than pressure:

  • Welcome and brand introduction
  • Browse and abandoned cart, handled with discretion
  • Post-purchase communication, care and first-use guidance
  • Servicing and replenishment reminders where relevant
  • VIP and high-value customer journeys
  • Win-back that respects why a customer went quiet

Email and SMS, where each belongs

Email carries most of a premium brand's lifecycle programme. SMS can be valuable for delivery, appointments or genuinely time-sensitive news, but used for promotion it quickly feels intrusive. We recommend it only where customers would welcome it.

Using customer data without damaging the experience

Personalisation should feel attentive, not watchful. We use data to choose the right moment and the right content — a care reminder for the piece they bought, not a discount on something they already own — and avoid anything that tells customers more about the tracking than about the brand.

Marketing and customer service, aligned

An email should never contradict what a specialist told a customer yesterday. We connect retention and support so both see the same customer, and suppress campaigns while a service issue is open. This is part of our wider customer experience consulting, and works naturally alongside white-glove customer service.

Shopify and Klaviyo integration

Klaviyo is only as good as the store data it receives. We review the Shopify integration — events, product data, order and fulfilment status — so flows trigger correctly and personalisation is accurate. Where the store itself needs work, see our Shopify consulting for luxury ecommerce.

Automation that still feels human

The best lifecycle emails read like a note from someone at the brand. We write copy in your voice, keep design quiet, and measure success on relationships: repeat purchase, revenue per customer and list health read together. Growth that costs you unsubscribes is not growth.

Questions we are often asked

Are you an official Klaviyo partner?

We are independent consultants who work hands-on in Klaviyo. We do not claim partner status; our recommendations are based on what serves your customers and your brand.

Can you audit an existing Klaviyo account?

Yes. An audit usually covers deliverability, segmentation, flows, content, integration data and reporting, followed by a prioritised plan of what to fix, keep and stop.

Should a luxury brand use discounts in abandoned cart emails?

Rarely by default. A well-written reminder, product reassurance or an invitation to ask a question often works better and protects the brand's pricing. Incentives, if any, should be deliberate and segment-specific.

Do you write the emails as well as build the flows?

Yes. Copywriting in the brand's voice is part of the work, because a technically correct flow with generic copy still sounds like everyone else.

Can Klaviyo work with our customer service team?

Yes. With the right setup, service interactions can inform segments and suppress campaigns during open issues, so marketing and support stay consistent.
